Where Philosophy and My Book Come In

It's been some time since my last post, I've been in a funk lately; my thoughts have too often become scattered and lost, drifting away from focus. I decided to spend some time relating how philosophy and my book could inspire more people to wisdom and a better approach to resolving conflicts.

I'm not happy with the current political situation, the so called "Stimulus Package" looks more like FDR's "New Deal." Too much wasteful spending; such as millions of dollars in ear marks in the following areas: Global warming research, sexually transmitted disease prevention, new cars for themselves, billions of dollars in corporate bailouts, Federal income tax rebates including to those who pay no Federal income taxes, and not enough tax cuts. All in all almost a trillion dollars of tax payer money, mathematically it cannot work, it will require higher taxes down the road to pay for it, and in two to three years we could see inflation rise to between 20 and 30 percent. Not a single Republican in the house voted for it, still they ram-roded it through, as they can in the senate if they so choose. The leading Democrats won't even consider the Republican's plan, which is half as costly, offers more tax cuts, and creates twice as many jobs, including jobs in the private sector, not just civil service jobs. Obama has promised to consider alternatives and entertain any ideas from both sides and from corporate leaders, yet he has not made any changes to his "Stimulus Package," which in my opinion would be a complete disaster. If you add to that his proposal for the health care industry to be taken over by the Federal government, then you're looking at the beginning of the end of capitalism and the freedom which has made this the most prosperous nation on Earth. Government will just continue to get bigger with more over reaching power as we loose our personal freedoms while more and more people become dependent on more government handouts. I suppose it's possible that a bigger force than the government is controlling the supply and flow of money, forcing the politicians in the biggest transfer of wealth in American history; perhaps it is the privately owned Federal Reserve and the banking cartel, or perhaps it's deeper and more abstract, such as a dark, sinister energy pervading the powers that be, of this I am not certain.

I am certain that more people need to become more aware of what is really going on; and go back to the fundamentals of truth, to doing the right things for the right reasons, to self-reliance, hard work, decency, integrity, honor, preserving our constitution and freedom, helping others in real need, and having the highest respect for the sanctity of human life. Making these virtues come to full fruition in the long term, I believe requires wisdom. Attaining wisdom requires analytical reasoning, objective observation, fundamental knowledge, acceptance of truth, integrity, and philosophic contemplation. It takes a lot of effort, difficult in the beginning, and through time with persistence becomes easier and more natural. The brain is designed to monitor and regulate bodily functions, while the mind's purpose is to think, feel, question, understand, choose, imagine, and create ideas. We must all be active as such, as individuals, keeping at bay stagnation and complacency, while overcoming hatred and evil with love and virtue. These things are obvious and simple, yet in modern society are difficult to carry out and seem to be slipping away. That is were integrity comes in, the strength of which stems from conviction and can only endure when it is founded by the principles of humanity and truth. It is by no means anything new, but it is something more of us need to get back to, which starts with developing a deeper understanding of reality, a more dynamic view of experience, and a stronger sense of living.

That is where philosophy and my book come in.
